The Ski Area

The Portes du Soleil is a vast ski area, encompassing 12 different ski resorts and 650km of piste. There truly is terrain for all kinds of skiers and snowboarders, from wide, tree-lined beginner runs to challenging off-piste adventures. Even after 12 years here, we’re still exploring and finding new routes and runs.

Billski is based in Morzine, which sits right at the heart of the Portes du Soleil. Many of our lessons take place in Morzine, Les Gets or Avoriaz, but we’re more than happy to travel to any of the great resorts in the Portes du Soleil to meet you.

The Snow

There’s a scientifically recognized micro-climate at work above the Portes du Soleil. The region sits between Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva, producing some epic snow records year after year. The Portes du Soleil’s highest resort Avoriaz is regularly named as the snowiest resort in Europe, giving us snow-sure pistes right until the end of the season.

Across the lower-altitude resorts, there’s been significant investment in snow farming facilities over the last five years. At the top of Morzine’s Pleney for example, there’s now a fantastic beginners ski area with guaranteed snow coverage. Lower altitude resorts are perfect for families and new skiers.

Here’s a look at Morzine’s historical snow record between 2017 and 2018, courtesy of our friends at snow-forecast.com.
